Atlanta City Councilmember Keisha Lance Bottoms introduces legislation to create an economic development task force, Invest in Southwest, for Southwest Atlanta
ATLANTA – Atlanta City Councilmember Keisha Lance Bottoms introduced a resolution Monday calling for the establishment of the Invest in Southwest Task Force for the purpose of creating a comprehensive master plan for Southwest Atlanta and to identify creative ways to generate economic development opportunity in the community.
“Southwest Atlanta has lagged behind other areas of Metro Atlanta with regard to economic development,” Bottoms said. “As commercial development and investment increase within the core of the City, it is paramount that Southwest Atlanta be on the forefront of consideration for future projects. The Invest in Southwest Task Force will make recommendations to ensure that Southwest Atlanta grows and flourishes in tandem with the greater city of Atlanta”.
The task force will be charged with developing ways to generate economic development opportunities in Southwest Atlanta, specifically the areas of Greenbriar, Camp Creek Marketplace, and the Campbellton and Cascade Road corridors.
The Invest in Southwest Atlanta Taskforce shall include, but not be limited to, the following members:
Š Three (3) members appointed by the Mayor
Š Invest Atlanta President or his or her designee
Š Three (3) members appointed by the Councilmember from District 10
Š Three (3) members appointed by the Councilmember from District 11
Š One Representative from NPU I
Š One Representative from NPU P
Š One Representative from NPU Q
Š One Representative from NPU R
Š One Representative from NPU S
Š One Representative from the City of Atlanta Planning Staff
Š One Representative from the Atlanta Beltline
Š One Representative from MARTA
